Faroo Launches stPROS on Pharos, but Adoption and Liquidity Remain Key Tests
Faroo has launched a liquid staking token on the Pharos blockchain, giving PROS holders a way to maintain a transferable representation of their staked assets rather than keeping their capital entirely tied up in conventional staking.
The product, called stPROS, became available on October 28 through integrations with Binance Web3 Wallet and OKX Web3 Wallet, according to Faroo’s announcement. The launch establishes an initial distribution route for the protocol, but the company has not disclosed how much PROS has been staked, how much liquidity is available for trading or how many users have adopted the token.
Those figures will be important in determining whether stPROS becomes a useful financial instrument or remains an early-stage addition to the Pharos ecosystem.
Liquid staking addresses a basic limitation of proof-of-stake blockchains. Users who stake tokens to support network validation can earn rewards, but unstaking may involve a waiting period during which their capital cannot be freely redeployed. Liquid staking protocols issue a separate token representing the staked position, allowing users to retain exposure to staking rewards while potentially using that token in lending markets, decentralized exchanges and other onchain applications.
Faroo’s approach uses an exchange-rate model to account for staking rewards. Rather than increasing the number of tokens in a user’s wallet as rewards accumulate, the protocol keeps the stPROS balance unchanged and increases the amount of PROS redeemable for each token over time.
In principle, this makes the token easier to account for in applications that rely on predictable wallet balances. Its economic value, however, depends on the underlying staking performance and the conditions under which stPROS can be redeemed or traded.
The distinction between accounting value and market value is important. An increase in the amount of PROS represented by each stPROS token does not guarantee that the token can be sold at an equivalent price on a decentralized exchange. If secondary-market liquidity is limited or selling pressure increases, stPROS could trade below the value of its underlying assets.
Faroo also says it has developed a redemption mechanism intended to reduce the waiting time associated with unstaking. According to the company, newly minted shares can be used to fulfill pending redemption requests when new minting activity occurs during the redemption process.
That mechanism could help users access their assets more quickly under the right conditions. However, the announcement does not establish how frequently immediate redemption will be possible, whether sufficient liquidity exists to meet large withdrawals or how the protocol would handle a surge in redemption requests.
The initial wallet integrations may help address another obstacle to adoption: the operational complexity of interacting with a new protocol. Users can access Faroo through the built-in decentralized application interfaces of Binance Web3 Wallet and OKX Web3 Wallet rather than configuring a separate interface manually.
Distribution through established wallets can reduce the number of steps required to access a product, but it does not necessarily generate sustained demand. The more meaningful indicators will be the amount of PROS deposited, the depth of stPROS trading markets and whether users employ the token in applications beyond the initial staking transaction.
Faroo is also planning to expand beyond conventional staking rewards. The company says it intends to introduce tbPROS in late November, combining proof-of-stake rewards with a framework linked to real-world assets. A separate points-based incentive program is planned for the same period.
The proposed RWA component could broaden the types of yield available through the protocol. However, the announcement does not identify the underlying assets, explain the legal structure supporting their cash flows or disclose how returns would be calculated and distributed. Without those details, it is too early to assess the product’s expected yield or risk profile.
Combining staking rewards with returns associated with real-world assets also creates a more complicated risk structure than staking alone. Investors would need to understand the source of each return, the counterparties involved and the conditions under which funds could be withdrawn. The existence of a hybrid-yield framework does not, by itself, establish that returns will be higher or more stable.
Faroo says it was selected as the first project under Pharos’ $10 million ecosystem incubation initiative and received a post-investment valuation of $10 million. It also identifies Bifrost’s SLPx technology as part of the architecture supporting its staking infrastructure. The announcement does not provide an independent security assessment of Faroo’s implementation or disclose the terms of its incubation investment.
For Pharos, the launch adds another component to its developing decentralized finance infrastructure. For Faroo, the immediate challenge is more practical: demonstrating that users have a reason to hold stPROS, that the token can be redeemed reliably and that sufficient liquidity develops to support its use across financial applications.
The planned RWA product could eventually expand the protocol’s reach, but it introduces questions that cannot yet be answered from the available announcement. Until Faroo publishes more information about adoption, liquidity, redemption performance and the structure of tbPROS, the launch is best understood as the beginning of a product rollout rather than evidence of an established yield ecosystem.
